MEET OUR DEANS
School of Arts & Letters
Dr. Barbara Kutis is the Dean of the School of Arts and Letters. She has taught at Indiana University Southeast since 2014 and teaches a variety of courses on modern and contemporary art. Dr. Kutis received her doctorate from the University of Delaware, a Master of Arts in Art History from the Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Santa Clara University. Dr. Kutis’s research interests include women, gender, and domesticity in contemporary art and issues of race, diasporas, and globalization. Her book Artist Parents in Contemporary Art explores the intersection of art, gender, domesticity, and parenting in contemporary art.
School of Business
Dr. David Eplion is the Dean of the School of Business. He previously served as the coordinator of the school’s Management, Marketing and Supply Chain departments and was the AACSB accreditation coordinator as well. After a career in sales and operations management, Dr. Eplion joined IU Southeast in 2001. Prior to that, he earned his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from the University of Pittsburgh, his M.B.A. from IU Southeast, and his undergraduate degree in Marketing from IU Bloomington. He is a past recipient of the Trustees Teaching Award and is an inductee into the IU Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching.
School of Education
Dr. Faye Camahalan grew up in the Philippines and worked as a grade school math teacher, school principal, and assistant professor prior to coming to the United States in 2003 to teach at Indiana University Southeast. Dr. Camahalan earned her Bachelor of Science in Education, Master of Science in Education, and doctorate from the University of the Philippines. Her teaching interests include psychology in teaching, child development, adolescent behavior and development, research in education, assessment in schools, and instruction in the context of curriculum. Dr. Camahalan’s research interests include self-regulation, metacognition, and action research in education.
School of Natural Sciences
Dr. Pam Connerly is the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences. She earned her doctorate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Chicago, and her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, with a minor in Biology, from Earlham College. As Dean, she emphasizes the many ways the programs in Natural Sciences incorporate experiential learning, which prepares students for varied careers and graduate study. She is passionate about broadening access and support for undergraduate research, such as the incorporation of authentic bacteriophage discovery and genomics research projects into introductory biology courses through the SEA-PHAGES program.
School of Nursing
Dr. Julia Mattingly is the Dean of the School of Nursing. Dr. Mattingly graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with an Infection Prevention focus in August 2014. She holds an ANCC certification as a Public Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PHCNS-BC) and has been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. Dr. Mattingly has worked with the Oglala Lakota of the Pine Ridge Reservation since 2011, implementing Methodist College’s first travel study course. IU Southeast nursing students have been traveling to Pine Ridge since 2016. Dr. Mattingly’s areas of focus in nursing include community/public health nursing, underserved populations, and health promotion.
School of Social Sciences
Dr. Meghan Kahn is the Dean of the School of Social Sciences. Prior to her role as dean, Dr. Kahn served as Program Coordinator for the Psychology and Neuroscience programs at IU Southeast. Dr. Kahn earned her doctorate and master’s degrees in psychology from Bowling Green State University. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Alfred University. Her main research interests are in comparative cognition, learning, investigating cultural relevance in the teaching of science, and focusing on providing more relevant learning experiences for students of diverse backgrounds to support growing diversity in STEM fields.
