NEW ALUMNI VOLUNTEER NETWORK
Embracing Change: From Alumni Board to Alumni Volunteer Network
In the ever-evolving landscape of higher education and nonprofit organizations, adaptability and innovation are key to success. The former Indiana University Alumni Association Kentuckiana Region Chapter is embracing change by transitioning from a traditional Alumni Board format to a more dynamic and inclusive Alumni Volunteer Network. This evolution aims to foster inclusivity, reduce time commitments, and introduce “volunteer snacking.”
From Alumni Board to Alumni Volunteer Network
Historically, alumni engagement centered on traditional Alumni Boards, typically made up of a select group of dedicated individuals who invested substantial time and energy. While these boards contributed significantly to shaping our institution and Alumni Association, the time demands, and broad scope made it hard for many to participate. Our Chapter has taken a bold step toward a more inclusive model, the Alumni Volunteer Network. This transition places an emphasis on engaging a wider spectrum of alumni in diverse volunteer opportunities while giving them greater flexibility and reducing time commitments.
Inclusivity for All Alumni
A primary motivation behind this transition is to foster inclusivity among all alumni in our region. The Alumni Volunteer Network welcomes the unique and meaningful contributions that can be made by those at all life stages and from diverse backgrounds, from recent graduates to established professionals with families, ensuring everyone can engage in supporting their alma mater.
Volunteer Snacking” Opportunities
“Volunteer snacking” is gaining popularity and encourages bite-sized, impactful activities for busy volunteers. The Alumni Volunteer Network champions this concept, promoting participation in short-term projects, mentorship programs, or one-time events, enhancing accessibility and maximizing contributions. This accommodates those with limited time and brings diverse perspectives to alumni engagement initiatives. Alumni can now choose to engage at their own pace, without the pressure of lengthy board meetings and extensive commitments.
Embracing Change in Name and Spirit
As we move forward, we proudly announce our shift from IUAA Kentuckiana Region to IUAA Southeast Indiana Region. While still including the Louisville Metro area, this adjustment eliminates brand competition with IUAA Kokomo Region, clarifying our alumni’s focus, as well as honoring the historical significance of the Kentuckiana Chapter of the Neal-Marshall Alumni Club. Embracing this name change aligns perfectly with the overarching “One IU” goal, promoting unity across IU campuses and regions. By specifically designating our region as Southeast Indiana, we reaffirm our commitment to the collective success of the IU community, strengthening our regional identity and supporting the values of Indiana University.
The transformation from a traditional Alumni Board to the IUAA Southeast Indiana Region, coupled with our name change, marks a pivotal moment in our alumni engagement strategy. Our beloved institution ensures that alumni, regardless of their circumstances, have a meaningful role to play in shaping their future. We have the opportunity for a more diverse, flexible, and engaged alumni community as we move forward under the banner of IUAA Southeast Indiana Region.
