From the desk of the Chancellor & Editor

Dear readers,

Welcome to the new digital magazine! We’re excited to show you the exciting ways we’re bringing the stories of our alumni, faculty and students to life.

The earliest record I can find of the IU Southeast alumni magazine existing is from 1998 (Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong!). In those days, the magazine was more of a glorified, 8-page newsletter. Since then, the magazine has evolved and adapted to adjust to the changing way people consume media.

The digital frontier allows us to tell those stories through new and immersive mediums — videos, sound clips, picture galleries, charts and infographics.

Instead of just reading about the important work alumnus Matthew Groenewold ‘97 is doing with the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention’s response to infectious epidemics, listen to him recount the story of his first encounter with the Ebola disease virus in West Africa.

Instead of just reading about Indiana University Police Department Lt. Steven Miller offering free cooking courses to residents of the campus lodges, watch him dish up a tasty lesson on preparing cold appetizers.

Instead of just reading about the students who can pursue their dreams thanks to the scholarships available at IU Southeast, explore the numbers and hear the stories of those who have been helped by financial aid.

For those of you like me who also enjoy holding a paper in your hands: Fear not. We’ll still be producing two print editions of the IU Southeast magazine every year. For now, though, enjoy exploring our digital storytelling in this edition.

Happy reading!
